WOMBO is a Toronto-based consumer AI company best known for WOMBO Dream, an app that turns text prompts and photos into AI art and, since early 2026, short AI videos. Dream is still live in September 2026 on phones, Macs and the web. The original lip-sync app was shut down in 2023. Dream is a fast, easy way to make stylized images, but offers less control than professional tools.

      What is WOMBO?

WOMBO (legal name Wombo Studios, Inc.) is based in Toronto, Canada, and was founded in 2021, according to BetaKit. It is led by CEO Ben-Zion Benkhin, one of its co-founders. The company’s first product was the WOMBO app, which animated a selfie into a lip-sync video of a song. It went viral in early 2021, and WOMBO followed it with Dream, a text-to-image app, later that year.

In September 2024 WOMBO raised $9 million in a round led by Round13 Digital Asset Fund, with NVIDIA, CoreWeave, SBI and Web3.com also taking part. BetaKit reported that the round followed a $6 million seed round in 2021, and AI Business put WOMBO’s total funding at more than $15 million. At the time, WOMBO said its apps had passed 200 million downloads, and that Dream had been named Google’s App of the Year in 2022.

The same announcement said the money would support research on w.ai, a project to turn idle laptops, phones and game consoles into a shared AI supercomputer. Today www.wombo.ai forwards to W.AI, while wombo.ai forwards to dream.ai. W.AI describes a decentralized AI network where people share idle GPU power and earn rewards, with W COIN as its native token. W.AI’s privacy policy names WOMBO Studios Inc. as its operator.

Which WOMBO apps are live in September 2026?

      AppStatus (September 2026)What it does
WOMBO DreamLive; latest version 7.0.9 released April 2026AI art, photo-to-art, text-based edits, text-to-video and photo-to-video
PETBOLive on the App Store; launched December 2025Turns pet photos into short template-based videos
WOMBO (original lip-sync app)Shut down in 2023Turned selfies into singing videos
WOMBO Meme: Character Creator (iOS)Still listed on the App Store; last updated December 2024, marked as temporarily withdrawn for a new releaseAI characters and memes from 5 to 20 uploaded photos
WOMBO Elections: AI Memes (Google Play)Still listed on Google Play; last updated December 2024Selfie-to-avatar and meme packs, themed around the 2024 US election
W.AILiveDecentralized compute network with token rewards (not a creative app)

The Elections listing uses the package name ai.wombo.me and still invites users to make avatars supporting Trump or Biden, so treat it as a legacy app. PETBO is WOMBO’s newest consumer app, but Dream remains its flagship creative app, so the rest of this review focuses on it.

Is WOMBO Dream private and safe?

Apple’s privacy label for Dream lists contact info, user content, identifiers and usage data as linked to your identity. On Google Play, Dream declares that data is encrypted in transit, that no data is shared with third parties, and that you can request deletion. The WOMBO Studios privacy policy linked from the App Store, last updated in 2025 and written largely for W.AI, says the company does not sell personal information for money and does not let third-party model providers train on your raw content without your explicit permission.

Age ratings differ: 13+ on the App Store and “Rated for 3+” on Google Play. The legacy Elections app declares on Google Play that it shares personal and financial info with third parties. Dream’s terms-of-service link on the App Store returned a “page not found” error when we checked in September 2026, so we could not confirm who owns outputs or whether commercial use is allowed. Read the terms inside the app first, and do not upload photos of other people without their consent.

      Key features of WOMBO Dream

Text-to-image AI art with preset styles

You type a prompt, pick a style and Dream returns an image in seconds. The App Store listing advertises more than 50 art styles, and dream.ai says it has over 100 curated styles. Styles include realistic, anime, fantasy, cartoon, cyberpunk and avatar looks. WOMBO does not name the underlying models; earlier versions were reported to use Stable Diffusion.

      Photo-to-art

Upload a photo and Dream redraws it in a chosen style, such as a watercolor portrait or an anime version of a pet, which suits profile pictures and social posts.

Edit with text and multi-image edits

“Edit with text” lets you refine a generated image with plain instructions instead of rewriting the whole prompt. The latest update adds the option to upload a set of images and generate a new image that applies exactly the edits you describe.

      Text-to-video

Version 7.0.0, released in February 2026, added text-to-video generation. A later update introduced video styles, and the App Store listing now lists more than 10, including anime, cyberpunk, fantasy, watercolor, oil painting, comic book, pixel art and neon.

      Photo-to-video animation

Image-to-video arrived in the same February 2026 release, and a March 2026 update added animated image-to-video. You can bring a still photo or a Dream artwork to life as a short clip.

      Apps on every major platform

      • iPhone and iPad (iOS/iPadOS 15.1 or later)
      • Mac with an Apple M1 chip or later (macOS 12.0 or later)
      • Apple Vision Pro (visionOS 1.0 or later)
      • Android via Google Play
      • Web browser at dream.ai

      Benefits of WOMBO Dream

      • Very low learning curve: style presets do much of the prompt work, so beginners get attractive results on the first try.
      • Images and video in one app: you can make a picture and animate it without switching tools.
      • Mobile-first: it is built for phones, with the same account on the web.
      • Cheap to try: the app is free to download, and the weekly Premium plan lets you test paid features without a long commitment.

WOMBO Dream use cases by role

      • Social media creators: stylized selfies, animated posts and quick visual hooks for Reels, TikTok and Stories.
      • Small business owners: rough mood images and concept art to brief a designer. Check the terms before using outputs in paid ads.
      • Students and teachers: illustrations for presentations, story prompts and art-style lessons.
      • Writers and game masters: character portraits and scene art for stories and tabletop campaigns.
      • Casual users: avatars, wallpapers and gifts, the audience Dream was built for.

How much does WOMBO Dream cost?

WOMBO does not publish a pricing page. The prices below are the in-app purchases listed on the US Apple App Store as of September 2026. App store prices vary by country and currency, and Google Play and web prices may differ, so check the price shown in the app before you pay.

      PlanPrice (US App Store)Notes
Free$0Free download on iOS and Android; WOMBO does not publish the free limits, and some Google Play reviewers say generation now sits behind the paywall
      Dream Premium (weekly)$6.99/weekAuto-renewing subscription
      Dream Premium (monthly)$9.99/monthAuto-renewing subscription
Dream Premium (yearly)$89.99/yearWorks out to about $7.50 per month
      Standard Yearly$99.99/yearIncludes a 3-day free trial

Weekly billing adds up to more than $360 a year, so the yearly plan is much cheaper if you keep Dream. Subscriptions bought through Apple or Google must be cancelled in your store account settings; deleting the app does not cancel them.

      WOMBO Dream pros and cons

      Pros

      • Very easy to use, with large preset style libraries for images and video
      • Text-to-video and photo-to-video added in 2026
      • Available on iOS, iPad, Mac, Vision Pro, Android and the web
      • Monthly price in line with entry-level plans elsewhere
      • Strong ratings on the US App Store (4.8 out of 5 from about 144,000 ratings at the time of writing)

      Cons

      • WOMBO does not disclose which AI models it uses or publish a free-versus-Premium comparison
      • Less control over composition, text rendering and consistency than Midjourney or Ideogram
      • Lower Google Play rating (3.9 out of 5 from about 527,000 reviews), with recent reviews complaining about paywalls and customer support
      • We could not access the current terms of service, so usage rights are unclear
      • Part of WOMBO’s 2024 funding was earmarked for W.AI, its decentralized computing project, so Dream is no longer the company’s only focus

      How to use WOMBO Dream

      1. Download WOMBO Dream from the App Store or Google Play, or open dream.ai in a browser.
      2. Sign in or create an account when the app prompts you.
      3. Choose what to make: an image from text, art from a photo, or a video from text or a photo.
      4. Type a clear prompt that names the subject, setting, mood and lighting, then pick a style.
      5. Generate, then use “Edit with text” to adjust details instead of starting again.
      6. Animate a favorite image with photo-to-video if you want motion.
      7. Save or share the result, and review the in-app terms before any commercial use.

      WOMBO Dream alternatives

      • Midjourney: pick it when image quality and fine control matter more than ease of use; plans start at $10 per month (Basic).
      • Leonardo.Ai: pick it if you want a recurring free allowance (150 fast tokens per day) before paying; paid plans start at $12 per month.
      • Ideogram: pick it when images need readable text, such as posters and logos; it has a free plan, and Plus costs $15 per month billed annually.
      • Canva: pick it when the AI image is only one part of a finished design; the free plan includes up to 20 AI uses per month, and Pro costs $144 per year.
      • Reface: pick it for face-swap videos and AI avatars; its sister app Revive makes photos sing, the closest live option to the original WOMBO lip-sync app.

      Frequently asked questions

Is WOMBO still available in 2026?

Partly. WOMBO Dream, the AI art and video app, is live on iOS, iPadOS, Apple silicon Macs, Vision Pro, Android and the web at dream.ai, with updates released in 2026, and WOMBO launched PETBO, a pet video app for iOS, in December 2025. The original lip-sync app was shut down in 2023. WOMBO also runs W.AI, a separate decentralized computing project.

      Is WOMBO Dream free?

WOMBO Dream is free to download on iOS and Android, and you can also start on the web at dream.ai. The paid tier, Dream Premium, is sold as a subscription. WOMBO does not publish a feature-by-feature comparison of the free and paid versions, and some recent Google Play reviewers say generation now requires Premium, so check the paywall screen in the app before you subscribe.

How much does WOMBO Dream Premium cost?

As of September 2026, the US App Store lists Dream Premium at $6.99 per week, $9.99 per month or $89.99 per year, plus a Standard Yearly option at $99.99 with a 3-day free trial. Prices vary by country and platform, and WOMBO does not publish a public pricing page, so confirm the price shown in the app.

What happened to the original WOMBO lip-sync app?

The original WOMBO app, which turned a selfie into a singing video, launched in early 2021 and went viral that year. According to BetaKit and Wikipedia, WOMBO shut it down in 2023 over copyright issues. It no longer appears among Wombo Studios’ apps on Google Play or the App Store. For photo lip-sync today, Reface’s Revive app is a live option.

What AI model does WOMBO Dream use?

WOMBO does not name the models behind the current version. Its website only says Dream runs on state-of-the-art AI models with more than 100 curated styles. Wikipedia describes Dream as powered by Stable Diffusion, but WOMBO does not confirm this, and it may not describe the text-to-video and image-to-video features added in 2026.

Can I use WOMBO Dream images commercially?

It depends on WOMBO’s terms of service, and we could not verify the current version. The terms link on the App Store listing returned an error when we checked in September 2026. Before you use Dream images in ads, products or client work, read the terms inside the app and keep a copy with your records.

Is WOMBO Dream safe to use?

Dream’s Google Play data-safety section says data is encrypted in transit, no data is shared with third parties, and you can request deletion. Apple’s privacy label shows contact info, user content, identifiers and usage data linked to your account. The WOMBO Studios privacy policy linked from the App Store says third-party model providers may not train on your raw content without your explicit permission. Avoid uploading photos of other people without their consent.

      Verdict

WOMBO Dream is still a solid choice in September 2026 for anyone who wants quick, stylized AI art and short videos on a phone without learning prompt craft. The 2026 video features make it more useful than the Dream many people remember. It is not the right tool for professional or commercial work: the models are undisclosed, control is limited, and we could not verify the current usage terms.

The original WOMBO singing-selfie app is gone; try Reface’s Revive instead. For serious image work, Midjourney, Leonardo.Ai or Ideogram are stronger picks. Use Dream for fun, social content and first drafts, and prefer yearly over weekly billing.
