Writesonic is no longer mainly an AI writing tool. In September 2026 it sells an AI search visibility platform that tracks how ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews and other AI engines mention your brand, then helps you fix the gaps with content, citations and technical work. Plans start at $79 a month billed annually. It suits marketing teams chasing AI search traffic, not casual writers.

      What is Writesonic?

Writesonic is made by Writesonic, Inc., a Delaware corporation based in San Francisco, according to its Terms of Service. Founder and CEO Samanyou Garg started it as an AI copywriting tool. Its about page and Y Combinator profile give 2021 as the founding year (it joined YC’s Summer 2021 batch), while Wikipedia dates it to October 2020, when it operated as Magicflow.

Writesonic says it raised $2.6 million in 2021 from Y Combinator, HOF Capital, Soma Capital and Rebel Fund and has been profitable since; Wikipedia puts the round at $2.5 million. The company also claims more than 10,000 customers and over $2 million in annual recurring revenue from AI search. These are vendor claims we could not verify independently.

How Writesonic changed from the AI writer you remember

Many people know Writesonic for its AI article and copy templates, the ChatGPT-style chatbot Chatsonic, the image generator Photosonic and the chatbot builder Botsonic. Wikipedia says the company moved into SEO in 2023 and into Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) around 2024. Product Hunt launches followed in 2025 (an SEO AI Agent in February, AI traffic analytics in March, an AI search visibility monitor in May), and in October 2025 it launched a GEO platform for Indian businesses.

The homepage now calls Writesonic “The AI Search Growth Engine” and omits Chatsonic, Botsonic or Photosonic. A third-party pricing guide from January 2026 still listed Free, Lite, Standard, Professional and Advanced tiers; the September 2026 pricing page has replaced them with Starter, Basic, Growth and Enterprise plans built around tracked prompts.

For an AI chat assistant, a standalone tool such as ChatGPT or Claude is the safer choice. Legacy Chatsonic subscribers should ask Writesonic support what their account includes.

      Key features of Writesonic

AI visibility tracking across 10 AI platforms

The core product measures how often your brand appears in AI answers to prompts you choose, across 10 listed platforms: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Microsoft Copilot, Meta AI, Google AI Mode and Google AI Overviews. It reports visibility scores, share of voice against competitors, per-prompt results and the sub-queries (fan-outs) AI models run before answering.

      Citation and sentiment analysis

Writesonic shows which of your pages and which third-party domains AI engines cite, split by source type such as media, blogs, forums and user-generated content. Sentiment analysis, included from the Growth plan up, scores how AI describes your brand and breaks it down by theme.

      Action Center

The Action Center turns tracking data into a ranked to-do list: new topics, on-page refreshes (structure, FAQs, freshness, comparison tables), sites that cite competitors but not you, community openings on Reddit and YouTube, and technical fixes such as blocked AI crawlers. Items are ranked by ICE score (impact, confidence, effort). The full Action Center is Enterprise-only; Growth gets a trial of 5 on-page and 5 off-page actions a month.

      AI Agent Analytics

This server-side feature logs AI crawler visits (GPTBot, ClaudeBot and others), click-throughs from AI citations, and error pages served to AI bots. It connects through Cloudflare, AWS CloudFront, Vercel, Shopify, Fastly, WordPress, Drupal or a custom log drain, and needs no JavaScript tag.

AI Article Writer and Content Agent

Writesonic says the Article Writer runs more than 100 steps per article, from SERP and competitor research to citations, FAQ schema and internal links, and publishes to WordPress, Sanity, Contentful, Contentstack, Notion, Drupal or Google Docs. The separate Content Agent drafts other formats, such as LinkedIn posts, sales emails, ads and product pages, in your brand voice.

SEO AI Agent and agentic workflows

The SEO AI Agent uses data from Ahrefs, Semrush, Moz, Google Search Console and Google Analytics to plan content, check site health and suggest fixes. Self-serve plans get 10 to 100 trial workflow runs; full access is Enterprise-only.

AI Search Volume, shopping and ads tracking

AI Search Volume estimates how often people ask a given prompt, based on what Writesonic says are more than 2 billion real AI conversations. The AI Shopping Tracker shows how often your products appear in AI shopping cards and which retailers they link to; the AI Ads Tracker monitors sponsored placements in AI answers. Shopping tracking is listed only under Enterprise, and self-serve plans get five one-time AI Search Volume runs.

      MCP server

Writesonic’s MCP server lets you query your visibility data from ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, n8n, Codex, Lovable or Notion AI after an OAuth sign-in. The page does not say which plans include it.

      Benefits of Writesonic

      • Tracking and fixing in one place: reporting sits alongside content, citation and technical workflows.
      • Lower entry price than enterprise GEO suites: $79 a month billed annually, while Profound sells Enterprise at custom prices.
      • Measures real AI traffic: server-side logs show whether visibility turns into visits.

      Writesonic use cases by role

      • SEO and growth marketers: track priority prompts, find citation gaps and refresh pages losing AI visibility.
      • Content teams: draft articles built for both Google and AI answers.
      • Agencies: report AI share of voice to clients against competitors.
      • E-commerce brands: see how AI shopping answers present your products (Enterprise).
      • PR and brand teams: monitor how AI engines describe the brand (sentiment needs Growth or above).
      • Founders in MENA: Writesonic cites 50+ markets and languages, but self-serve plans track one market, so brands tracking the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Egypt separately should ask sales about Enterprise.

      How much does Writesonic cost?

As of September 2026, the pricing page lists annual-billing prices and yearly savings ($240, $600 and $1,200); our monthly-billing column is calculated from those savings, not listed by Writesonic, and matches the $99-a-month figure on its SEO AI Agent page and a May 2026 RankUp guide.

Extra users cost $50 per user per month on Basic and Growth, and Growth can add 20 articles for $100 a month. Self-serve plans have a 7-day free trial with no credit card, and the Terms of Service allow a full refund of the initial self-serve fee if requested within seven days of first purchase. Botsonic is billed separately: $19, $49 or $299 a month (Starter, Professional, Advanced), or $16, $41 and $249 billed annually.

      Writesonic pros and cons

      Pros

      • Combines AI visibility tracking with content, citation and technical fixes
      • Server-side AI crawler and referral analytics
      • Article credits and CMS publishing included in every plan
      • Free trial with no card, plus a seven-day refund window

      Cons

      • Self-serve plans track only 3 of the 10 advertised AI platforms; Claude, Perplexity and Copilot need Enterprise
      • Full Action Center, shopping tracking and multi-market tracking are Enterprise-only
      • The old Free and Lite writing tiers are gone; the entry price is now $79 a month billed annually
      • Results cited on Writesonic’s pages are vendor claims, not independent benchmarks
      • Chatsonic’s page looks out of date, and it is unclear what legacy subscribers keep

      • Surfer: pick it for on-page content optimization; its AI Search Analytics plan costs $82 a month billed yearly and tracks 50 prompts daily across five AI surfaces.
      • Jasper: pick it if brand-voice marketing content is the main job; Pro costs $69 per seat per month, or $59 billed annually, and GEO agents are on the custom-priced Business plan.

      Frequently asked questions

Is Writesonic still an AI writing tool?

Only partly. Since 2025 Writesonic has sold itself as an AI search visibility platform for GEO and AEO: it tracks how ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews and other AI engines mention your brand, then recommends fixes. AI writing survives as the AI Article Writer and Content Agent, included in every plan (15 to 50 articles a month on self-serve tiers).

How much does Writesonic cost in 2026?

As of September 2026, Writesonic’s pricing page lists Starter at $79, Basic at $199 and Growth at $399 per month when billed annually, plus custom-priced Enterprise. Based on the annual savings the page shows, month-to-month billing works out to $99, $249 and $499. Extra users cost $50 per user per month on Basic and Growth, and Growth can add 20 articles for $100 a month.

Does Writesonic have a free plan?

Not for the main platform. The September 2026 pricing page offers a 7-day free trial of Starter, Basic and Growth with no credit card required, but no permanent free tier. Writesonic’s terms also allow a full refund of the initial self-serve subscription fee if you ask within seven days of first purchase. Some free utilities remain, such as an llms.txt generator and an AI crawl checker.

What happened to Chatsonic, Botsonic and Photosonic?

Botsonic, the no-code chatbot builder, is still sold on botsonic.com by Writesonic, Inc., from $19 a month. Chatsonic’s page at writesonic.com/chat is still online, but it carries a 2025 copyright and older models such as GPT-4o, and is not on the current pricing page. Photosonic’s old landing pages no longer load, although the help centre still documents it.

Which AI platforms does Writesonic track?

Writesonic says it tracks 10: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Microsoft Copilot, Meta AI, Google AI Mode and Google AI Overviews. The catch: Starter, Basic and Growth track only three (ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews). All 10 are included only in the custom-priced Enterprise plan.

Is Writesonic better than Semrush for AI visibility?

It depends. Writesonic is cheaper to start ($79 a month billed annually for 50 prompts) and bundles content and page-fix workflows. Semrush’s Starter plan, at $199 a month billed monthly, tracks 50 prompts daily across Google Search, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and more, and sits inside Semrush’s established keyword, backlink and site-audit toolkit. Teams that already run SEO in Semrush may not need a second tool.

Who owns content created with Writesonic?

Writesonic’s Terms of Service, last updated 12 May 2026, say the customer owns all right, title and interest in outputs generated for them through the service. Ownership is subject to third-party rights and AI model provider terms, and the terms warn that outputs may be inaccurate, incomplete or infringing, and that similar outputs may be generated for other customers. Check facts and originality before publishing.

      Verdict

Writesonic is now a credible AI search visibility platform whose distinctive strength is linking tracking to action through the Action Center, its writing tools and server-side AI traffic analytics. For teams that need to know whether ChatGPT and Google’s AI answers mention them, Starter or Growth is a lower-cost starting point than enterprise GEO suites.

Two caveats: self-serve plans cover only ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews, and the best features sit on Growth or Enterprise. If you want the cheap AI writer or Chatsonic, this is no longer that product; use ChatGPT, Claude or Jasper for writing, and Semrush or Ahrefs for broad SEO data.
