Adobe Firefly is Adobe’s generative AI app and model family for images, video, audio and vectors, available on the web, on mobile and inside Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere and Adobe Express. In September 2026 it combines Adobe’s Firefly Image Model 5 with partner models from Google, OpenAI, Black Forest Labs, Runway and others. It suits teams already on Creative Cloud, but its credit system takes planning.

What is Adobe Firefly?
Firefly is made by Adobe Inc., the company behind Photoshop and Creative Cloud. It launched as a public beta in March 2023, and Firefly for Enterprise followed in June 2023. On 3 September 2026 Adobe announced that Anil Chakravarthy will become president and CEO on 1 December 2026, with Shantanu Narayen moving to executive chair.
Firefly is now a family of Adobe-trained models, a web and mobile app, and the engine behind generative features across Adobe’s apps.
Which models does Firefly use in September 2026?
- Adobe: Firefly Image Model 5 (generally available since March 2026; native 4MP, per Adobe), Image 4 and 4 Ultra, the Firefly Video Model, and the Music, Speech and Audio models.
- Google: Nano Banana Pro and Nano Banana 2 for images, Google Veo for video, and Gemini Omni Flash in Firefly Boards.
- OpenAI and Black Forest Labs: GPT Image 1.5, GPT Image 2 and GPT Image 2.5 variants, plus FLUX 1.1, FLUX.1 Kontext and FLUX.2 models.
- Video partners: Runway Gen-4.5 and Aleph 2.0, Kling AI 2.5 Turbo, 3.0 and 3.0 Omni, Luma AI Ray3 and Ray3.14, and ByteDance’s Dreamina Seedance 2.0.
- Audio and upscaling: ElevenLabs Multilingual v2 for speech, and Topaz Labs Gigapixel, Bloom and Astra for upscaling.
- HUMAIN Image 1: a Saudi model that HUMAIN says is designed for culturally aligned imagery.
This list comes from Adobe’s partner-model help page (updated 10 September 2026). Adobe does not guarantee continued access to partner models, and availability varies by country.
Does Adobe Firefly support Arabic?
Only partly. Arabic is not among the interface languages Adobe lists for Firefly on the web, and the Firefly Speech Model does not support it. Adobe says prompts can be written in “various languages.”
Saudi Arabia is the exception. According to Adobe, HUMAIN Image 1 accepts Arabic prompts (translated for processing) and is the default image model in Firefly and Adobe Express in Saudi Arabia. On 31 August 2026 Adobe, Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and HUMAIN announced 12 months of free Firefly Standard plus Adobe Express Premium features for eligible Saudi citizens and residents aged 13 and over, with access planned by the end of 2026. The same day, Adobe Express added right-to-left Arabic support.
Key features of Adobe Firefly
Image generation, editing and custom models
The web app covers text-to-image, Generative Fill, Expand, Erase, background removal and upscaling. Firefly Image Model 5 adds Prompt to Edit, so you can describe a change in plain language. Since March 2026 you can train a custom model on your own images to keep a style or character consistent (public beta). A September 2026 update raised prompt length limits and expanded GPT Image 2 from three to ten aspect ratios.
Video generation and the video editor
Firefly generates clips from text or images with the Firefly Video Model or partner models such as Veo 3.1, Kling 3.0 and Runway Gen-4.5. A browser-based editor arranges clips on a timeline, and Quick Cut (March 2026) turns raw footage into a first cut. The 18 September update added background removal across whole clips and reference images for Kling 3.0 Omni.
Audio: music, speech and sound effects
On 20 August 2026 Adobe made Generate Music, Generate Speech and Generate Sound Effects generally available. Adobe markets Generate Music’s tracks as licensed and safe for commercial use. Generate Speech uses the Firefly Speech Model or, optionally, ElevenLabs. Translate Audio and Translate Video dub files from 5 seconds to 10 minutes long.
Firefly Boards
Boards is a canvas for mood boards and storyboards where you can generate with several models side by side and work with teammates in real time. It is free to try, and assets move into Photoshop, Premiere and After Effects.
Firefly AI Assistant (beta)
Announced on 15 April 2026, the AI Assistant takes a described outcome, such as a brand kit or a short product video, and runs the steps for you. Since June 2026 it has been in public beta in Firefly and inside Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, InDesign and Frame.io. An upgraded Creative AI Studio with reusable characters and locations is in private beta.
Firefly inside Creative Cloud apps
In Adobe Photoshop, Firefly powers Generative Fill, Generative Expand and Harmonize, with partner models such as Gemini and FLUX as options. Illustrator offers Text to Vector Graphic and Generative Recolor, Premiere uses Generative Extend to lengthen clips, and Adobe Express offers Generate Image and Generate Video.
Commercial safety, Content Credentials and indemnity
Adobe says its models were “trained on licensed content, such as Adobe Stock, along with public domain content where copyright has expired,” and that it does not train Firefly or partner models on subscribers’ content. Firefly attaches Content Credentials to generated images.
There are caveats. In April 2024 Bloomberg reported that about 5% of Firefly’s training images were AI-generated Adobe Stock submissions, some made with Midjourney; Adobe said they passed its moderation. For partner models, Adobe says you are responsible for deciding whether a model suits your project, and it shares your prompt and reference files with the provider, including the Chinese companies behind Kling and Seedance.
Contractual IP indemnity is available only to enterprise customers who purchase it, for “select Firefly outputs.” Beta features and non-Adobe models are excluded from the standard Firefly indemnity; separately, Adobe covers certain copyright claims for generally available Google and OpenAI models in Firefly Creative Production for Enterprise. Individual plans carry no indemnity.

How do generative credits work?
Standard features (about 1 credit each) are unlimited on paid Firefly plans and Creative Cloud Pro. Premium features, including video, audio and partner models, draw on monthly credits. Adobe’s credits FAQ lists Generate Video at 100 credits per second at 1080p, 50 at 720p and 20 at 540p, so Standard’s 2,000 credits cover four five-second 1080p clips.
Credits reset on your billing date and do not roll over. When they run out, wait, upgrade or buy an add-on: 2,000 credits for $9.99, 7,000 for $29.99, 10,000 for $49.99 or 50,000 for $199.99 per month.
What is the unlimited generations offer?
Individual Pro, Pro Plus and Premium plans (and 4,000 to 50,000 credit plans) bought on firefly.adobe.com or the Firefly mobile app include 12 months of unlimited generations on selected models; team and enterprise plans are excluded. All tiers cover Firefly Image Model 5 and GPT Image, with Nano Banana, FLUX, Kling and video models such as Veo 3.1 Fast added on higher tiers. After 12 months you spend credits again, and Adobe can change or end the offer at any time.

- No Arabic interface in Firefly, and no Arabic in the Firefly Speech Model
How to use Adobe Firefly
- Go to firefly.adobe.com or install the Firefly app on iOS or Android, and sign in with an Adobe account.
- Choose a mode: Image, Video, Audio, Boards or the AI Assistant.
- Pick a model; partner models and premium features show a credit cost.
- Describe the subject, setting, lighting and style, and add a reference image for consistency.
- Refine with Prompt to Edit, Generative Fill or Expand instead of starting over.
- Finish the result in Photoshop, Premiere or Express, checking your credit balance before long video jobs.
Adobe Firefly alternatives
- Midjourney: choose it for distinctive artistic images; Basic costs $10 per month.

Frequently asked questions
Is Adobe Firefly free?
Yes, with limits. Adobe offers free daily generations across image, video and audio on firefly.adobe.com, with limits that refresh each day, and Firefly Boards is free to try. Paid plans start at $9.99 per month for Firefly Standard, which adds 2,000 monthly credits and unlimited standard image features such as Generative Fill.
How much does Adobe Firefly cost in 2026?
As of September 2026, Adobe’s US prices are $9.99 per month for Firefly Standard (2,000 credits), $19.99 for Pro (4,000), $49.99 for Pro Plus (10,000) and $199.99 for Premium (50,000). Pro Plus and Premium carry a 30% first-year discount ending 21 October. Creative Cloud Pro costs $69.99 per month with 4,000 credits.
What happens when I run out of generative credits?
Standard features stay unlimited on paid plans, but premium features such as video, audio and partner models stop until your credits reset on your monthly billing date. You can also upgrade or buy an add-on, from 2,000 credits for $9.99 to 50,000 for $199.99 per month. Unused credits do not roll over.
Can I use Adobe Firefly images commercially?
Adobe markets its own Firefly models as commercially safe because they are trained on licensed Adobe Stock and public-domain content. For partner models such as Google, OpenAI or Kling, Adobe says you decide whether a model suits your project. Contractual IP indemnity is available only to enterprise customers who buy it, and beta features and most partner models are excluded.
Which AI models are available in Adobe Firefly?
As of September 2026, Firefly offers Adobe’s Image Model 5, Image 4, Video, Music, Speech and Audio models plus partner models: Google Nano Banana and Veo, OpenAI GPT Image, Black Forest Labs FLUX, Runway, Kling, Luma, ByteDance Seedance, ElevenLabs, Topaz Labs and HUMAIN Image 1. Partner access can change.
Does Adobe train Firefly on my content?
No, according to Adobe, which says it does not train Firefly or partner models on Creative Cloud subscribers’ personal content. When you use a partner model, Adobe shares your prompt and any reference files with that provider, which it describes as the minimum needed to generate an output.
Does Adobe Firefly work in Arabic?
The Firefly interface is not available in Arabic, and the Firefly Speech Model does not list Arabic, though Adobe says prompts can be entered in many languages. In Saudi Arabia, Adobe says the HUMAIN Image 1 model accepts Arabic prompts, and eligible citizens and residents can get 12 months of free Firefly Standard under an August 2026 national program.
Verdict
Adobe Firefly is one of the most complete generative AI suites available in September 2026, and the natural choice for people who already work in Adobe’s apps. It pairs Adobe’s own models with many leading partner models, and Boards and the Photoshop integration are real strengths.
The main drawback is cost planning. Video and partner models burn credits quickly, the best deals are time-limited, and the commercial-safety story weakens once you leave Adobe’s own models. Start with the free tier or Standard, track credit use for a month, and move up only if video is central to your work. Arabic support remains limited outside Saudi Arabia.
